Map Ads Get Their Point Across

Two recent ads seen in magazines and newspapers:

"The We Campaign is a project of The Alliance for Climate Protection -- a nonprofit, nonpartisan effort founded by Nobel laureate and former Vice President Al Gore. Our ultimate aim is to halt global warming. Specifically we are educating people in the US and around the world that the climate crisis is both urgent and solvable."

The use of a "word cloud" globe emphasizes how all can be a part of solving the problem of climate change.

You might just have treasure buried somewhere in your home. Do you have old savings bonds? Cash them in! But who would store their old savings bonds in the garage?

Erin Go Bragh

On March 17, millions of Americans drink foul tasting green beer, get staggering drunk and walk around spouting nonsense words like "Erin Go Bragh" and "Top O' the Morning To Ye" They call themselves "Irish for a Day" or desperately cry out, "Kiss me, I'm Irish". Unlike the real Irish, who drink good beer, don't wait till one day per year to get really pissed, and are probably kissed by other Irish persons on a daily basis! But, let us not digress into unfair cultural stereotypes.

In honor of today's St. Patrick's Day celebration, we bring you two map postcards appropriate for the day, from Karen's Whimsy and the St. Louis Time Portal (Irish music warning: turn down the volume on your computer...)

"They're After Me Lucky Charms!"

Yo Ho Ho! A Developer's Life For Me

A recent issue of Microsoft's Visual Studio Magazine included this fold out map for the board game, "A Developer's Life for Me". The mechanics of the game (roll and move) are less important than the clever illustrations.

Yo Ho Ho! Developing code on the high seas is a dangerous adventure...

Just when you think you have an interesting project, with a reasonable timetable, you run into the "Island of Boss's Folly"

Or even worse... a dreaded "Meeting With Suits"!

The Microsoft Visual Studio system is a suite of development tools for creating console and GUI applications along with Windows Forms applications, web sites, web applications, and web services.

You can download and print your own copy of the game here.

Thanks to Hunter for sending this map to me.
